Numerous user reports across various forums and review sites, like Trustpilot, highlight alarming price discrepancies on Topstep that do not align with actual market indices. This discrepancy leads to suspicions of intentional manipulation aimed at triggering traders’ stop losses, which undermines the credibility of a platform that purports to offer real trading experiences.
Additionally, the Trading Combine seems structured with nearly impossible targets. Many traders believe the rules are intentionally designed to facilitate failure, resulting in frequent account resets. This practice appears to benefit Topstep financially while placing a burden on traders. The company’s ambiguous regulations surrounding the deletion of trading days and the resetting of accounts for supposed “prohibited conduct” only contribute to the platform’s murky and, possibly, exploitative nature.
It is crucial for regulatory bodies like the SEC to look into these serious allegations. Although Topstep operates within a simulated framework, the reliability of these simulations is paramount, as they can have real-world financial implications. Traders rightfully expect a fair and transparent evaluation system, not one that is seemingly rigged against them.
If Topstep genuinely intends to promote traders’ success, it needs to fundamentally improve its practices. If not, it risks revealing itself as a profit-driven entity that exploits traders under the pretense of providing education. The increasing number of complaints from the trading community and regulators should not be overlooked.

By the time the markets opened on Monday morning, all my issues were resolved. The firm seems to operate under some misconceptions right from the start, as they often blame the consumer for not doing their adequate research. After investing in a $50,000 account and successfully completing the combine, I found myself facing restricted access on my funded account—something I didn’t encounter during the combine process. Most proprietary trading firms provide clear expectations; you buy in for certain benefits, like 10 minis and 100 micros, but that’s not the experience I had with Topstep. When I attempted to discuss this with a supervisor, their attitude was outright rude, and my concerns were dismissed completely. On a positive note, it is worth mentioning that you do have the option to speak with a live representative when you call. However, it’s simply not acceptable to charge clients money and then alter the rules post-combine, especially while showing such disregard for the customer experience.

This platform feels like a scam. They offer an option called Adjust Stop Loss and Take Profit, but honestly, it rarely works as intended. Sure, it sometimes hits the profit target and closes the trade, but when it comes to the stop loss, that’s where the trouble begins. Instead of triggering the stop loss, the price just keeps plummeting until your account gets wiped out. It makes you wonder whether it’s intentional—otherwise, why can’t you even hit the flatten button when your trade is in free fall without hitting your stop loss?
Plus, the customer service is incredibly poor. I literally waited an entire day just to get a single response, and their approach to dealing with customers is downright frustrating. Overall, it’s just a waste of money. I’m truly disappointed and cannot recommend this firm.

The platform is quite disappointing. I would advise against using it. It feels like they are just taking your money. I experienced problems with all three of my accounts, and after waiting for two days, I finally received a message from Madison—she mentioned she would get back to me shortly. Well, I’m still waiting. Right now, I can’t even access my accounts. There seems to be persistent glitching issues; for instance, the stop loss and take profit functions haven’t been working properly for me on multiple occasions. Just yesterday, I saw an email stating that all my accounts were canceled due to these problems. I’ve been trying to communicate with them to provide proof of these issues, but nobody has responded to my messages. The service has been utterly terrible.
